The lack of Alzheimer’s care is on the verge of becoming an epidemic. The age-related disease that hinders memory, thinking and behavior already affects one in eight people over 65, or an estimated 5.4 million people, in the United States. These numbers are expected to grow rapidly with the “silver tsunami” – the aging baby boomer generation – and there is already a shortage of caregivers.

Technology Improves Connections between Grandparents and Grandchildren on Autism Spectrum

For three years, University of Utah researchers have been deploying a computer-based design program called SketchUp in workshops to teach and develop life skills for youth on the autism spectrum. An earlier study showed that using the program helps kids develop their spatial and visual acuity, as well as to leverage those strengths to build positive social interactions.

Andromeda Wants You!

Astronomers at the University of Utah and elsewhere are seeking volunteers to explore the galaxy next door, Andromeda. The newly launched Andromeda Project will use people power to examine thousands of Hubble Space Telescope images of the galaxy to identify star clusters that hold clues to the evolution of galaxies.
