The University of Utah already has strengths in health, video game development and entrepreneurship, and a new competition for students at the U brings them all together. The Games4Health Challenge encourages students to develop prototypes of health-related video games and smartphone applications for a chance to win part of an estimated $50,000 in cash and in-kind prizes.

Latest American Community Survey Shows Utah’s Housing Value at $209,000 and Homeownership Rate at 69.7 Percent Post-Recession

The U.S. Census Bureau today released the latest statistics from the American Community Survey, which cover a three-year period from 2010-2012 and are available for areas with a population of 20,000 or more. According to an analysis conducted by the Utah State Data Center, a division of the Bureau of Economic and Business Research within the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah, the median home value for Utah was $209,000 during the post-recession period of 2010-2012, a decrease from $227,400 during the recession period of 2007-2009. The survey also showed a post-recession median home ownership rate of 69.7 percent, a decrease from 71.8 percent during the recession.

Newly Discovered Predatory Dinosaur “King of Gore” Reveals the Origins of T. rex

A remarkable new species of tyrannosaur has been unearthed in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument (GSENM), southern Utah. The huge carnivore inhabited Laramidia, a landmass formed on the western coast of a shallow sea that flooded the central region of North America, isolating western and eastern portions of the continent for millions of years during the Late Cretaceous Period, between 95-70 million years ago. The newly discovered dinosaur, belonging to the same evolutionary branch as the famous Tyrannosaurus rex, was announced today in the open-access scientific journal PLoS ONE and unveiled on exhibit in the Past Worlds Gallery at the Natural History Museum of Utah at the Rio Tinto Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
