University of Utah’s Founders Day 2010 to Celebrate Distinguished and Honorary Alumni

The University of Utah Alumni Association will celebrate Founders Day, which commemorates the founding of the University of Utah in 1850, at a banquet on Wednesday, February 24, at the Little America Hotel in downtown Salt Lake City. Honoring individuals who have distinguished themselves professionally and personally, the event will acknowledge alumni Larry D. Gluth, M. Elizabeth Hale Hammond, Fred Lampropoulos, and Robert Alan McDonald for their outstanding achievements. Also recognized as an Honorary Alumna will be Marta Sutton Weeks-Wulf.

Governor Huntsman, Community Representatives Break Ground on New LEED Gold Certified Building for the Utah Museum of Natural History

July 29, 2008 (Salt Lake City, Utah) -More than 600 guests will join Governor Jon Huntsman Jr., representatives from the State, University of Utah, donor community, and the Utah Museum of Natural History to celebrate the groundbreaking for the museum’s new home, The Rio Tinto Center. The official ceremony will take place at the new site, located southeast of Red Butte Garden and Arboretum, on University land that overlooks the Salt Lake Valley. The event will be held from 8 to 10 am.

U of U’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Redefines Retirement with Winter Term Offerings

This winter, lifelong learners age 50 and over at the University of Utah will come together to explore their internal resources, find new dimensions for growth, and reexamine their histories. They’ll study together in courses they chose, developed specifically for them by subject experts. Sixteen weekly classes and a variety of special events will be offered during the U’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Winter term, beginning January 15, 2007. The Utah Museum of Natural History Hires Its First Capital Campaign Director

Chris Eisenberg, known for strong community ties, commitment to the nonprofit sector, and fundraising expertise, has joined the Utah Museum of Natural History at the University of Utah as its capital campaign director. Mr. Eisenberg, former station manager at KCPW public radio, will work with museum staff over the next several years to complete a comprehensive fundraising campaign to raise an approximate $35 million of the $65 million needed to build the state’s new natural history museum. The new museum is scheduled to be built on University land, south of Red Butte Garden and Arboretum.
