Exhibition Honors Veterans, Displays War Literature

With Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day around the corner, the exhibition “Honoring Our Veterans” at The University of Utah’s J. Willard Marriott Library is right on target. The exhibition includes more than 100 vignettes of Utah veterans who have been honored by the University of Utah since 1998. One such veteran, Emmett Davis, was at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.

U Launches New Admissions Process

The University of Utah today announced an addition to its admissions process that makes it possible for newly accepted freshmen and transfer students to defer enrollment for a maximum of seven consecutive semesters. The process will go into effect for the fall semester of 2013.

University of Utah Celebrates Utah Vets

One fall night in 1967, near Bong Son in the Republic of Vietnam, Richard S. Dixon – a 20 year old machine gunner and demolition expert – was traveling with 10 members of his squad in a two vehicle convoy when it was ambushed by at least two dozen Viet Cong soldiers. Machine gun fire killed the squad’s commanding officer. Although grievously wounded, Dixon continued to fire his pistol at virtually pointblank range, defending himself and his fellow soldiers.

Wild & Scenic Film Festival Comes to Utah

In this case, a selection of films entirely about environmental and natural resource issues will be screened as a touring edition of the Wild & Scenic Film Festival, which is held annually in California. But for the first time, Utah locals will only have to travel to the campus of the University of Utah to see and discuss the films.
