Renowned Naturalist George Schaller Calls for Protection of World’s Rarest Creatures

George Schaller, one of the world’s most famous conservation biologists, will discuss his research and efforts to protect some of the world’s most beautiful species in a reading and book signing at the Salt Lake City Public Library main auditorium on Feb. 23 at 7:00 p.m. The event, which is sponsored by the Wallace Stegner Center for Land, Resources and the Environment at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law, is free and open to the public. No pre-registration is required.

U’s Middle East Center Presents Lectures on U.S. Public Diplomacy in the Middle East

The Middle East Center (MEC) at the University of Utah, one of 15 national resource centers in the U.S. devoted to the academic study of the Middle East, will sponsor a series of six public lectures titled “U.S. Public Diplomacy in the Middle East.” The presentations are part of the MEC’s continuing mission to increase understanding of Middle East history, culture, religions, literature, politics and contemporary dynamics. Each free lecture, followed by a question-and-answer discussion, will be held from 3 until 4:30 p.m., in the Dumke Auditorium in the Museum of Fine Arts, located south of the David Eccles School of Business.

U of U to Honor 12 Utah Veterans at Annual Commemoration Program

The University of Utah will honor 12 Utah veterans at a full-dress military ceremony as part of its annual Veteran’s Day commemoration program on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. in the Olpin Union Building on campus. University of Utah President Bernie Machen will present commemorative medallions to this year’s honorees. Nearly 100 cadets and midshipmen from the military science ROTC programs will present the ceremony which will include a 21-gun cannon salute.

Law Symposium to Focus on Mandatory Minimum Sentences
