Utah Sweeps BYU in Annual Food Drive

Utah fans swept BYU by winning both the food and monetary donation portions of the annual Utah/BYU Rivalry Week Food Drive. Utah supporters donated $60,228 and 232,767 pounds of food, while BYU fans did their part in the fight against hunger by raising $55,285 and 162,318 pounds of food.

Salt Lake Media to Celebrate Completion of University Hospital’s Three-Year Parking Nightmare

Local media will join (we hope) the PR team, as well as physicians, staff and patients at University Hospital this Thursday at 10 a.m. to celebrate the completion of a three-year $130 million expansion of the state’s only academic medical center. In addition to increasing the number of private rooms, creating a new lobby and improving access to the hospitals services, the expansion also features a convenient parking lot for local news media (which unfortunately will be covered with a giant tent for the ribbon cutting ceremony).

Big, Old Mice Spread Hantavirus

University of Utah researchers dusted wild deer mice with fluorescent pink, blue, green, yellow and orange talcum powders to show which rodents most often fought or mated with others and thus were most likely to spread deadly hantavirus. The study identified bigger, older mice as the culprits.
