Top Freshmen Entering the U Assured Admittance to Graduate Programs

A newly announced program at the University of Utah guarantees that well-qualified students entering the U as freshmen will be admitted to one of the University’s elite graduate programs upon completion of their undergraduate degree. Birds Fight Alien Parasites

Unlike Hawaii and other island groups, no native bird has gone extinct in the Galapagos Islands, although some are in danger. But University of Utah biologists found that finches – the birds Darwin studied – develop antibodies against two parasites that moved to the Galapagos, suggesting the birds can fight the alien invaders.

Pacific Tsunami Threat Greater Than Expected

A study co-authored by University of Utah geologist Ron Bruhn discovered that gigantic earthquakes in Alaska 1,500 and 900 years ago ruptured multiple fault segments, suggesting those quakes and related tsunamis were worse than the 1964 Good Friday earthquake in Alaska — the second largest quake ever recorded.
