Ute Fans Invited to Test their Skills and Tailgate at the Gateway

Fans of Utah football are invited to the Olympic Legacy Plaza at the Gateway shopping center to tailgate and cheer for the Utes to beat Utah State before that interstate rivalry on Saturday, September 10. The party gets underway at 3 p.m. with a march by the University of Utah Marching Band and cheerleaders down Rio Grande Street. Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Rice Eccles Stadium.

U of U’s Development Vice President to Retire After Record Thirty Plus Years

After more than three decades at the helm of The University of Utah’s fund-raising efforts, J. Michael Mattsson, vice president for development, announced his retirement effective June 30, 2005. Mattsson recently informed his staff that, “This has been a momentous decision for me, but the time has come.” Mattsson, who has agreed to serve as President Michael K.Young’s special assistant for development-related matters following retirement, said that “the Mike Young presidency will be a golden era for this institution, especially in the area of development. All of us can look forward to exciting, productive, and progressive years ahead.”

U of U Modern Dance Graduate Named Best Student Performer in the Nation at Kennedy Center

Last week Jill Patterson, 28, who graduated with an M.F.A. in Modern Dance from the University of Utah in May, won $1,000 and was named “Outstanding Student Performer” at the National Festival of the American College Dance Festival Association. Finalists from 10 regions, representing 400 colleges and universities, attended the National Festival, held at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, in Washington, D.C.
