Tanner Humanities Center to Launch Annual World Leaders Lecture Forum

The Obert C. and Grace A. Tanner Humanities Center at the University of Utah (the U) will launch an annual World Leaders Lecture Forum Feb. 22, 2007, the same day former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak will speak at both an open-to-the public campus event and a private dinner. Tanner Humanities Center Director and Professor of History Robert A. Goldberg said, “The new World Leaders Lecture Forum, whose mission is to bring individuals of international stature and global impact to Salt Lake City, will operate under the center’s auspices.”

U Announces Establishment of Center for Nonviolent Human Rights Advocacy

The College of Social and Behavioral Science (CSBS) at the University of Utah announces the establishment of the Barbara L. and Norman C. Tanner Center for Nonviolent Human Rights Advocacy. U of U Inauguration Symposia to Feature Former Secretary of State James Baker

As part of the celebratory events prior to the installation of Michael K. Young as 14th president of the University of Utah, the University will host a series of symposia. The April 15th inauguration will be the culmination of 10 days of activities, ranging from cultural and community events to lectures on global issues. All events are free to the public on a first-come/first-served basis. The arts performance requires tickets, which are also free. Judith F. Baca to Present Public Video and Lecture at U of U

Judith F. Baca, creator of the Great Wall of Los Angeles mural, located in the Tujunga Wash Flood Control Channel in L.A., will present a free public lecture on Thursday, Dec. 2 at the University of Utah. A film, “The World of Art: Judy Baca,” which features Baca discussing two public art projects in Southern California, will be screened, from 3:15 until 3:45 p.m., followed by Baca’s lecture, from 4 until 5:30 p.m. Baca will show examples of and discuss her work and answer questions. Both events will be held in the Dumke Auditorium, in the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, located at 1665 E. South Campus Drive (410 S.)

Diverse Class of More Than 6,500 Set to Graduate From University on May 2

The University of Utah class of 2002-2003, comprised of a Rhodes Scholar and students from 43 countries, 45 U.S. states and 21 Utah counties, will march to Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstance” on Friday, May 2 at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. The procession of graduates will start at 8:20 a.m. with the commencement ceremony beginning at 9 a.m. (Guests should plan to be in their seats prior to 8:30 a.m. Tickets are not required.)
