The Real Battle? Religious Freedom v. Terrorism

The root cause behind terrorism in the 21st Century and how to curtail it could involve putting restrictions on freedom of religion. The University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law will host a symposium on October 23 from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. focused on religious rights, counter-terrorism and national security. The half-day event is based on Professor Amos N. Guiora’s new book “Freedom from Religion: Rights and National Security.”

In continuation of this long standing tradition, Richard H. Fallon Jr., the Ralph S. Tyler Jr. Professor of Constitutional Law at Harvard Law School will talk about “Executive Power and the Political Constitution,” Thursday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. in the Sutherland Moot Courtroom at the law school.

Now, he is studying the way lives, businesses and institutions are being changed by today’s emerging technologies, including mobile communications, ubiquitous computing, geographical position sensing and social reputation technologies.

Summit to Focus on Resolving Conflicts

When public organizations are unable to resolve disputes, litigation often results, a costly outcome for both government and the public. The annual summit of the Utah Intergovernmental Roundtable will offer an overview and discussion of alternative approaches to litigation, including Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). This year’s event, “Us vs. Them: Helping Organizations Resolve Their Conflicts,” will be held on Thursday, Sept. 30, from 7:45 a.m. until 2 p.m., in the Utah State Office Building, 450 N. Columbus Str. (50 E.), directly north of the Capitol. The meeting will be held in the first floor auditorium. Parking is available in the lot on the corner of Main Street and 500 N. U of U Commencement on May 7 to Graduate More than 7,000

Commencement ceremonies at the University of Utah will be held on Friday, May 7, at 9 a.m. in the Jon M. Huntsman Center. The class of 2010, comprised of 7,034 graduates, will receive degrees that morning. The procession of diverse students, who come from 76 countries, 50 U.S. states and 27 of Utah’s 29 counties, will begin at 8:20 a.m. Guests should plan to be in their seats prior to 8:20 a.m. Tickets are not required.
