On April 10 at the Utah City Managers Association (UCMA) annual conference, University of Utah Master of Public Administration (MPA) students competed in and won the second annual competition for the Utah City Manager’s Cup.
Beating out BYU for the second consecutive year, student teams analyzed a real life case study that occurred in Orem this past year. The question before the Orem City Council was whether Orem should create a new school district, separate from their current home in Alpine School District.

U Announces Establishment of Center for Nonviolent Human Rights Advocacy

The College of Social and Behavioral Science (CSBS) at the University of Utah announces the establishment of the Barbara L. and Norman C. Tanner Center for Nonviolent Human Rights Advocacy. With the U and individuals and organizations from across the state as the catalyst, the center will pursue nonviolent human rights advocacy on the interpersonal, community and global levels through the education and participation of students, faculty, staff and the greater community.

Class of 2003-2004 Set to Graduate From U of U on May 7

The University of Utah’s class of 2003-2004, comprised of 7,404 graduates, will receive their degrees at commencement ceremonies on Friday, May 7, at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. The procession of diverse graduates, who come from 60 countries, 50 U.S. states and 26 Utah counties, will begin at 8:20 a.m., with the commencement ceremony beginning at 9 a.m. (Guests should plan to be in their seats prior to 8:30 a.m. Tickets are not required.)

Tom Maloney to Lead Tanner Center for Nonviolent Human Rights Advocacy

Tom Maloney, associate professor of economics at the University of Utah, will be the new director of the Barbara L. and Norman Tanner Center for Nonviolent Human Rights Advocacy. The announcement was made today by David Rudd, dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Science. Maloney replaces George Cheney who has accepted a position as an endowed chair in Communication Studies at the University of Texas at Austin and will be leaving by the fall of 2010.
