U of U Computer Server Compromised

A University of Utah department computer has been compromised by an unknown outside source, ultimately leading to unauthorized access of the server, according to the University of Utah Office of Information Technology. The server contained library archival databases including a file with approximately 100,000 names and social security numbers of former University employees. The database included information used as an index for archives for paper employee files from 1970 to 2003.

U of U Names Kim Wirthlin to Top Posts in Government Relations, Health-Care Communications

Kim Wirthlin has been named University of Utah Vice President for Government Relations and Associate Vice President for Marketing and Communications at the school’s Health Sciences Center. In announcing the newest addition to his cabinet, University President Michael K. Young said, “This new cabinet post will streamline our campus-wide government affairs efforts under one roof and demonstrates the importance our institution places on legislative relationships on the state and federal levels.”

The addition of prescription drug benefits to seniors’ Medicare has become an important public health policy-and hotly debated-issue. Politicians have batted around different figures, but, according to University of Utah Associate Professor of Consumer Studies Jessie Fan, little research has existed on actual dollar amounts spent over time and how these expenses related to seniors’ health coverage.

U Students Commissioned To Create Artwork For Medical Center Light Rail Transit Line Stations
