Utah Artist Gary Ernest Smith to Present First in Series of U of U Lectures

On Thursday, Nov. 3, the University of Utah Department of Art and Art History will present a free public lecture by Utah artist Gary Ernest Smith. The event will be the first in the Carmen Morton Christensen Visiting Artist/Art Historian Lecture Series. Smith’s presentation, from 5 until 6 p.m., will be held in room 158 of the University’s Art Building, located at 375 S. 1530 E.

Inauguration Celebrations at U to Offer Free Symposia and Cultural Events to Public

A panoply of University of Utah events will take place the week prior and leading up to the inauguration of Michael K. Young as the University’s 14th president on Friday, April 15th, at 11 a.m., in Kingsbury Hall, located at 1395 E. Presidents Circle (180 S.) on the University of Utah campus. The event is free and open to the public on a first come, first served basis. A processional ticket is required for those participating in the academic procession, which will commence at the Park Building, at 10:45 a.m., and travel to Kingsbury Hall. Following the ceremony a reception will be held, weather permitting, on the Kingsbury Hall Plaza. In case of inclement weather, the reception will be held in the Gardner Hall atrium.

People Productions Presents “The Talented Tenth”

People Productions, Utah’s only African American themed theatre, will present Richard Wesley’s The Talented Tenth, as a part of the University of Utah’s 27th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration. The play, influenced by an essay by the great African American writer, W.E.B. Du Bois, chronicles a group of successful African American men struggling with success and complacency 25 years after their involvement with Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement.
