University of Utah Rugby Club in Final Four

Rugby is not a game widely played in America, and most colleges and universities, including the University of Utah, don’t recognize it on an official team sport. But that didn’t stop the U’s Rugby Club from playing teams from all over the country and making it all the way to the Final Four. The squad is in Virginia Beach, Va. this weekend May 5-6 to battle it out for the Division I Collegiate Men’s National Championship. The other three teams who made it to the Final Four are defending national champion Cal Berkeley, Wyoming and Army.

Johnson and White, “All Aboard” Party Candidates, Win ASUU Elections

“All Aboard” Party presidential and vice presidential candidates Adrian Johnson and Anthony White are the winners of the Associated Students of the University of Utah (ASUU) final elections. Johnson and White beat Summit Party candidates Jake Werrett and Rob Wood by 239 votes. (Johnson and White received 1,822 votes. Werrett and Wood received 1,583 votes.) The announcement was made in the Union’s Crimson Underground during half time of the Runnin’ Ute’s Mountain West Conference tournament.

Utah Hires Urban Meyer As Its New Football Coach

The University of Utah has hired Urban Meyer as its new head football coach, Utah Director of Athletics Dr. Chris Hill announced today. Meyer, the head coach at Bowling Green State University for the past two years, has agreed to a five-year contract worth $400,000 a year.

University of Utah Student Named Rhodes Scholar

Gretchen J. Domek, a University of Utah biochemistry student, was one of 32 American students named a Rhodes Scholar on Saturday. The competitive two-year scholarship to Oxford University for international graduate study covers educational costs, travel expenses, and a living and vacation stipend, and is renewable for a third year.
