Utah Business Students Hope to Hear “You’re Hired” as The Donald’s Next Apprentice

Donald Trump is looking for his next apprentice and he has sent his team of recruiters in search of talent to the University of Utah. The show’s representatives will be on campus Friday, July 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in room 380 of the Student Services Building. Recruiters from Mark Burnett Productions, producers of the NBC reality hit show The Apprentice, will interview U of U MBA students and Alumni to see if they have what it takes to work for The Donald.

U of U Presents Black Awareness Month Events

In 1954, the United States Supreme Court handed down a unanimous decision aimed at ending segregation in public schools. In recognition of the fiftieth anniversary of the Brown v Board of Education decision, and as part of Black Awareness Month 2004, the University of Utah will present “‘With All Deliberate Speed’?”, a variety of free, public activities throughout February.

University of Utah to Conduct Earthquake Disaster Drill

A moderate earthquake will strike the University of Utah campus between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., Tues., September 30, 2003, at least in theory. The drill is part of a series of ongoing studies to determine the preparedness of emergency personnel to deal with such a disaster. The epicenter of the simulated earthquake and most of the exercise activity will be located on the east plaza of U’s Marriott Library. The drill will conclude at 1 p.m.

The University of Utah’s Hinckley Institute of Politics and Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) Resource Center will sponsor a panel discussion titled “Defining Minority: A Process of Inclusion?” on Wednesday, June 25, from noon until 1 p.m. The forum will take place in room 253 of Orson Spencer Hall, 260 S. Central Campus Dr. The event is free and open to the public.

Pride 2010 Celebrates Shades of Queer

In the midst of continuing challenges to the lives and rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people, the University of Utah Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgendered Resource (LGBT) Center will celebrate Pride Week with the theme “Shades of Queer: Connecting through Difference.” The celebration, which runs from Oct. 18 to 22, provides an opportunity to share the rich diversity of the LGBTQ campus community.

U of U Students Score at Global Business Plan Competition

Short Solutions, a University of Utah startup company consisting of four current and former engineering students, won the Palo Alto Software Challenge Award at the 2010 Global Moot Corp Competition – the “Super Bowl of business plan competitions” -at The University of Texas in Austin. Only 40 teams from 12 countries qualified to participate. Short Solution’s win earned the team $1,500, which brings their total earnings from grants and competitions to $86,500.

Iran’s Economy and the Post-Election Crisis

The Middle East Center at the University of Utah will host a community talk examining the current economic and political situation inside the Islamic Republic of Iran given by Dr. Nader Habibi of Brandeis University. The talk, entitled, “What’s Happening inside Iran: The Post-Election Crisis’ Impact on the Iranian Economy,” will take place Saturday, Sept. 19 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Salt Lake City Main Library Auditorium (210 East 400 South). The lecture is free and open to the public.
