U of U Commencement on May 5 to Graduate More than 7,300

Commencement ceremonies at the University of Utah will be held on Friday, May 5, at 9 a.m., in the Jon M. Huntsman Center. The class of 2006, comprised of 7,332 graduates, will receive degrees that morning. The procession of diverse students, who come from 66 countries, 50 U.S. states and 25 of Utah’s 29 counties, will begin at 8:20 a.m. Guests should plan to be in their seats prior to 8:30 a.m. Tickets are not required.

UMFA Exhibition Revisits Utah’s Unique Past

Revisiting Utah’s Past on view at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts from January 14 through July 23, 2006, presents paintings and sculpture from the Museum’s collection that document Utah’s unique history. In partnership with the University of Utah’s J. Willard Marriott Library and the Utah State Historical Society, the exhibition also includes historical interpretive materials such as photographs, books, and journals that provide additional perspectives and connections to artists’ perceptions.

Impacts of University of Utah startups ‘significant and impressive’

A new report by the Bureau of Economic and Business Research (BEBR) concludes that the economic impacts of startup companies at the University of Utah (the U) are “significant and impressive.” The study indicates university startup companies directly or indirectly generated 15,767 jobs, $754.5 million in personal income and $76.6 million in tax revenue in 2009. The full analysis covers 188 companies and invention licenses created since 1970.

Graduate Social Work Program Heading for Southern Utah

The University of Utah College of Social Work announced Tuesday that they anticipate offering a Master of Social Work (MSW) program in St. George. Prospective MSW graduate students in Washington County are invited to attend one of two information sessions on Tuesday, March 29, beginning at 9 a.m. or 4:30 p.m. Additionally, representatives from area social service agencies are invited to attend a discussion session the same day from noon to 2 p.m. All sessions will be held at the St. George University of Utah Graduate Center, located at 1071 East 100 South, Suite A100, St. George.
