Clinton Assistant Ibarra to Donate Papers to U’s Marriott Library

Mickey Ibarra, former Assistant to President Clinton and Director of Intergovernmental Affairs at The White House (1997-2001), will be signing a deed agreement transferring his personal White House and Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games papers to the University of Utah’s J. Willard Marriott Library. The signing and unveiling of special items will occur outside the office of University of Utah President Michael K. Young on Thursday, May 3, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. (Park Building, main floor). Ibarra and President Young will be available for interviews following the signing ceremony.

UNP’s Adelante Students to Perform on Campus

Eighteen first-graders enrolled in Adelante’s ballet folklorico class will perform in the Student Union on Thursday, Nov. 16 during their next field trip to campus. They have been invited to be a part of the 12th Annual MEChA (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán) High School Conference “Uniting Communities: Our Education, Our Liberation / Uniendo Comunidades: Nuestra Educacion, Nuestra Liberacion” because of the relationships MEChA students have developed as mentors for these students, said Luciano Marzuli, MEChA supervisor. They will perform during lunch at 12:30p in the Union Ballroom for over 400 high school students attending the conference.

David Eccles School of Business Announces Historic $13.25 Million Gift

The David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah today announced a $13.25 million gift from Canadian philanthropist and David Eccles School alumnus Pierre Lassonde. The gift will create the largest entrepreneur center in the United States and represents one of the largest donations ever made to the University of Utah and the David Eccles School of Business by an individual donor.

Financial Times Ranks David Eccles School of Business EMBA Program among the Top 75 in the World

The Financial Times has announced that the David Eccles School of Business (DESB) Executive MBA program ranks among the top 75 in the world. The popular British newspaper and Web site will publish its rankings list Monday, October 24. For the second year in a row the Executive MBA program at the University of Utah is the only program in Utah to be ranked. The David Eccles School of Business placed 66th overall and 37th in the United States. The school’s overall ranking shows an increase of one spot from the year before.

U Researcher Reports Environments that Promote Deep Engagement Yield More “Psychologically Complex” Students

According to a new study issued this month by University of Utah researcher Kevin R. Rathunde and Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, world-renowned originator of the concept of “flow,” students in traditional middle schools experience nearly four more hours per week of what was classified as “drudgery” than those enrolled in Montessori middle schools, where students experience more intrinsically motivated deep engagement. (Montessori schools follow the educational philosophy of Italian educator Maria Montessori, who emphasized social interaction and the education of the whole personality, rather than a specific body of knowledge.)

U Professor Launches Project Devoted to Preserving Utahns’ Life Stories

Everyone has a story to tell. Anyone-but especially the people of Utah-can now preserve their life stories with a trip to YourStory: Record and Remember, a recording studio that resembles a comfortable living room, but contains equipment that produces broadcast-quality compact disks (CDs). YourStory opened last Saturday in the Museum of Utah Art & History (MUAH), 125 S. Main Street, in downtown Salt Lake City.
