U of U to Host Lecture Series on the Escalating Iraqi-American Confrontation

Beginning Tuesday, Feb. 4, the University of Utah will host a series of lectures on the mounting Iraqi-American tensions. Similar in format to the 9-11 lecture series organized by the University in the aftermath of Sept. 11, 2001, this nine-part series, scheduled to run through mid-April, will feature a variety of perspectives from leading experts on regional and international politics. On Tuesday, the first speaker, Adeed Dawisha, will lecture on “The Use of Force Against Iraq: Constraints and Opportunities,” at 3 p.m., in the Dumke Auditorium in the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, which is located next to the David Eccles School of Business.

Eccles Convocation Welcomes Adobe Founder Warnock

On Tuesday, October 1, Adobe Chairman of the Board and Co-Founder John E. Warnock will speak at the 12th annual Spencer Fox Eccles Convocation, which will be held at Utah Museum of Fine Arts, Dumke Auditorium at 11 a.m. The purpose of this event is to celebrate the role of Spencer Eccles in the naming of the School after his grandfather, David Eccles. Convocation speakers are chosen as those who have in some way exemplified the entrepreneurial spirit of David Eccles, and they present current issues in business.

AAMC Selects David Bjorkman for Fellowship Program

David J. Bjorkman, M.D., M.S.P.H., senior associate dean of the University of Utah School of Medicine, has been selected to participate in a new national leadership development program for current and future medical school deans. Bjorkman is one of three individuals selected from among 16 applicants for the 2002-2003 Council of Deans Fellowship Program, sponsored by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).

Workers to Celebrate the First Day of Autumn

In an effort to promote a sense of community and environmental awareness, the Bennion Center’s Bend-in-the-River project is hosting an Autumn Equinox celebration on Monday, September 23, from 5:30 p.m. until dark. The event is free and open to the public. Participants will work together to water, mulch and clear weeds at the Bend-in-the-River site, a two-acre urban green space on the Jordan River.
