Utah Ballet “Tribute” to Include Two World Premieres

The University of Utah’s resident ballet company, Utah Ballet, recognized as one of the finest collegiate dance groups in America, will present its fall concert, “Tribute,” which will include two world premiere pieces, Nov. 17 through 20, at 7:30 p.m. The event also celebrates Kingsbury Hall’s 75th anniversary. Tickets are $16, $12 and $8, with U of U and group discounts available. Tickets may be purchased at the U’s Olpin Union main desk, through ArtTix outlets, or by calling 801-581-7100 or 801-355-ARTS.

Cognetix to Host Amendment 2 Info Session

In a pair of new studies, University of Utah scientists took early but significant steps to fight a particularly deadly childhood muscle cancer by identifying some of the genetic events that cause the disease and then engineering mice that develop the tumors. The genetic events might be targets for new drugs that could be tested on the mice.

Utah Educator Honored by Peers

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) today announced Dr. JoAnn S. Lighty, professor of Chemical Engineering and former associate dean for academic affairs in the College of Engineering at the University of Utah, recipient of the 2004 SWE Distinguished Engineering Educator Award. In issuing the honor, the society cited Lighty’s dedication to SWE’s goals and mission and her willingness to serve on many committees that address issues of women in engineering.
