September 9, 2002 — Mike Perez was recently appointed to the position of associate vice president for facilities management at the University of Utah. Perez replaces Randy Turpin who retired earlier this summer.
“Mike has an extremely strong background, having gained quality experience in similar positions at two other universities,” says Arnie Combe, vice president for administrative services at the U. “He is taking the reins of an operation that is already strong and well-managed but is suffering, with other areas of the university, from severe resource constraints. We are excited at the fresh perspectives he will bring to the challenges and opportunities that face us.”
Since 1999, Perez has served as assistant vice president for facilities management at Weber State University. Prior to 1999, Perez was director of construction and renovation, campus planning and plant operations at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.
Perez holds an M.B.A. and bachelor’s degrees in business administration and psychology from Southern Methodist University. Currently, he is the president of the Utah Association of Physical Plan Administrators.
“I’m excited to join such a well-established and respected organization,” says Perez. “The U is the ‘flagship’ institution in the state of Utah, well known for it’s academic excellence, and this is a wonderful opportunity.”
