U of U Alumni Association Board of Directors Announces New Officers

Jeffrey L. Hilton

August 15, 2002 — The University of Utah Alumni Association has named Jeffrey L. Hilton president of its board of directors and Pamela T. Greenwood vice president of the board. Both will serve three-year terms.

Hilton, who will also serve on the University’s Board of Trustees, is partner/owner of Integrated Marketing Group in Salt Lake City. A 1978 graduate of the U, Hilton has been recognized by Advertising Age magazine as one of the nation’s Top 100 Marketers and is a frequent speaker at marketing conferences throughout the United States.

Greenwood, whose bachelor’s and law degrees are from the U, is a presiding judge of the Utah Court of Appeals. She was honored as the Utah Woman Lawyer of the Year in 1993.

Hilton and Greenwood will lead a 24-member board that serves more than 200,000 University of Utah alumni. The board raises money for student scholarships, performs community service throughout Utah, and serves the University through events such as Homecoming and Founders Day, advocacy programs, and student recruiting.

“This is a tremendous privilege and opportunity to serve the devoted alumni of this great institution, and I look forward to forging new associations and partnerships over the coming years,” says Hilton.

Nine new members will also join the board this fall. They include J. Kevin Bischoff of Regence BlueCross BlueShield; Marilyn Matheson Branch, appellate court administrator; Stephen G. Handy of Stephen G. Handy Marketing Communications; Patricia W. Jones, a representative in the Utah State Legislature; Richard Mecham of the Salt Lake City Broadcast Group; Karen Fotheringham Peterson, volunteer literacy teacher; Sally Thurman Ware, with The Ramsey Group real estate; Ann Waters, an administrator at Parsons Behle & Latimer; and Thomas W. Whitney of Wells Fargo Bank.

According to M. John Ashton, executive director of the Alumni Association, “In Jeff and Pam we have two outstanding leaders with many years of University and community service. Together with the new board members, they will provide a fresh impetus to the board and the Association.”

The University’s Alumni Association has been in existence since 1886, with the mission of serving alumni and encouraging them to maintain a lifelong relationship with the University of Utah. Through membership in the Alumni Association, alumni are offered discounts on professional and cultural activities at the University, travel and insurance opportunities, and news of the University through the U’s quarterly magazine, Continuum. The annual membership fee is $36.
