International Vision Researchers Set To Gather In Utah To Develop Game Plan For Tackling Blinding Diseases

A group of international vision researchers will meet in Salt Lake City this week (June 21-22) to set a timeline for the start of human clinical trials of potentially sight saving therapies already proven to be effective in rats. The meeting, sponsored by the University of Utah’s Moran Eye Center and the Foundation Fighting Blindness (FFB), will focus on retinal cell transplantation, including the use of stem cells, to treat age-related macular degeneration. Scientists from 19 different universities and research organizations representing five countries will participate in the conference.

The Real Property Section of the Utah State Bar, the national Commercial Investment Real Estate Institute (CCIM Institute), the Utah CCIM Chapter and the University of Utah are co-sponsoring the half-day seminar. The University of Utah and the Utah Transit Authority today announced a partnership that will allow fans to rally in selected TRAX lots before the Utah/Indiana home game and then ride a special train to Rice/Eccles Stadium. Marc Amicone, assistant athletic director in charge of marketing, says the Rally & Ride idea sounds like a winner. “What a great way to get to a Utah football game. We are excited to team-up with UTA and it should be a lot of fun for our fans.”
