Forever Fun, Forever Crimson: Homecoming 2010

This year’s Homecoming Week offers something for every palette. Humanitarian efforts, festive fund-raising, comedy and athletics for the whole family prove that Homecoming at the University of Utah is “forever crimson.” Celebrations kick off September 18 with the Legacy of Lowell Annual Community Service Day and culminate September 25 with the Utah vs. San Jose State football game at 6 p.m. in Rice-Eccles Stadium. The week is filled with fun for students, alumni and other Ute fans.

Down to only five people, the board of directors for the Utah Animal-Assisted Therapy Association is looking for new members. “Like many other nonprofits, we’re challenged by finding individuals with the right mix of knowledge, interests, and skills,” said executive director Gaelyn Derr. “Say that we wanted an attorney with a background in mental health, or a physical therapist that has helped with fundraising events. Where do we even begin to look?” The answer might be right at her fingertips.

University of Utah Expands Diversity Initiatives

The University of Utah announced today that the Office for Diversity will expand its name to Equity and Diversity. Correspondingly, the university’s chief diversity officer, OctavioVillalpando, Ph.D., will assume the new title of Associate Vice President of Equity and Diversity. The expanded name will more accurately reflect the U”s efforts not only to increase its demographic diversity, but also to ensure greater equity in the educational, professional and personal experiences of all communities on campus.

Family Visiting for the Holidays? What’s the Story?

The holidays are when families come together to pass on stories from generation to generation. Now the S.J. Quinney College of Law is making available a forum to anyone who wants to share their tales with a wider audience. Submissions are being sought of brief monologues about family from faculty, staff, students, and community members. These monologues will be performed on the evening of February 28, 2008, as part of a conference on the New Frontiers in Family Law hosted by the College of Law and Gender Studies Program.
