Public Invited to Attend U Symposium on Consumer Policy

The public can learn more about consumer policy-challenges of advocacy, deceptive advertising claims, consumer scams and the bankruptcy debate-at a symposium, sponsored by the University of Utah Department of Family and Consumer Studies. The event, held in honor of the retirement of Associate Professor John Burton from the department, is free and will be held Monday, April 25, from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., in rooms 220 and 320 of the Alfred Emery Building, 225 S. 1400 E.

University of Utah Sponsors 21st Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration

The University of Utah’s 21st Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Celebration, “The Challenge for a Multiracial Democracy in America,” Jan. 12-17, will feature Carlos Muñoz, Jr. as the keynote speaker. Muñoz is an internationally recognized expert on ethnic and racial politics, multiculturalism, immigration and affirmative action. All MLK events are free and open to the public. The University of Utah today announced the hiring of Scott D. Folsom as the new Director of Public Safety/Chief of Police. Folsom begins his duties at the U June 1, 2004. He will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing and coordinating the safety activities and operations for the Department of Public Safety.

Families To Enjoy a Week of Fun, Healthy Activities at Be Well Utah

Utah families will have an opportunity to participate in hundreds of healthy activities during Be Well Utah: A Family Health Week, September 13-18, 2010. Presented by University of Utah Health Care and Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah, Be Well Utah will feature complimentary health screenings, informative lectures with health care experts, and activities to encourage people to make healthy choices. Events will take place at various locations around the U of U campus and the surrounding community, culminating with a fair on Saturday, Sept. 18 at Fort Douglas on the U of U campus. Ute fans are urged to wear their crimson gear this coming Monday, Nov. 23 for the annual Rivalry Week Pep Rally beginning at noon on the J. Willard Marriott Library plaza.
