A New Home for Hartland

For every square foot of space it inhabits, University Neighborhood Partners (UNP)/Hartland Partnership Center has helped an equal number of new arrivals in Salt Lake City adjust to life in a complex new culture. The on-site facility, located in a 300-unit apartment complex on Salt Lake City’s west side, has outgrown its current space that totals 1,900 sq. ft. between two apartments on 1700 South and Redwood Road and will expand into a new building offering 10,000 sq. ft. of space, thanks to a generous lead gift of $300 K from Goldman Sachs.

University of Utah Library Brings the Arctic to the Desktop

American conservation took a major step forward 50 years ago-the establishment of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) in Alaska. The Refuge has preserved a unique piece of American wilderness and wildlife for future generations. The 50th anniversary of the establishment of ANWR will be officially recognized on Monday, Dec. 6, 2010.Fortunately the natural sounds of this remote landscape have been preserved for future generations and can now be accessed by anyone with a computer and access to the Internet. Anyone interested in the sounds of ANWR can find them at the digital Western Soundscape Archive, which resides at the J. Willard Marriott Library at the University of Utah and can be accessed at www.westernsoundscape.org

A team from the University of Utah with a bionic arm for ultrasound clinicians won the annual techTitans idea competition earlier this month. Teams from across the state competed in the competition at the U of U. The winning teams survived several rounds of judging by local professors and business professionals who evaluated the merit of their ideas.
