Utah College Students to Show off Research Projects


January 30, 2007 — College students from across Utah will gather at the University of Utah to share information and explain their work on everything from studying new stars to reducing the cost of billing in a dental office.


The first annual Utah Conference on Undergraduate Research (UCUR) will take place at the University of Utah’s Olpin Union on Friday, February 2, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a reception to follow at 3:30 p.m. in the Scholarship Room of the Rice-Eccles Stadium Towers.


277 undergraduate student researchers from almost every institution of higher education in the state of Utah, who have worked with faculty mentors, will share their research in the form of posters and oral presentations. Faculty mentors will come together with students to act as moderators of oral sessions and to provide support for their students” presentations.


University of Utah President Michael K. Young will welcome those attending, followed by a keynote address by highly esteemed researcher Noelle Cockett, vice president for Extension and dean of the College of Agriculture at Utah State University. UCUR is the culminating event of Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement Week as designated by Governor John M. Huntsman, Jr.
