U Physician Named President of the Association of Departments of Family Medicine

Michael K. Magill, M.D., Professor and Chair of the University of Utah School of Medicine’s Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, was recently named president-elect of the Association of Departments of Family Medicine (ADFM) at the organization’s Annual Meeting in Savannah, Georgia.

ADFM is the national organization of chairs of departments of family medicine in US medical schools and large regional academic health centers. The purpose of ADFM is to promote excellence in research, teaching and clinical care in family medicine. Like the University of Utah’s department, many are enriched by multidisciplinary programs in family, preventive, occupational, environmental and/or community medicine as well as public health, physician assistant and other disciplines.

Dr. Magill will become President in February, 2008, and will serve a three-year term on the Council of Academic Family Medicine, the umbrella organization for all of academic family medicine. He said, “I am honored to have been chosen by my peers to represent them at this time of great opportunity to improve health care for the American people and around the world through our teaching, research and clinical service.”
