May 13, 2010-The University of Utah will host its 13th annual Veterans Day commemoration program on Thursday, November 11, 2010 to honor those who have served our country in the military. Again this year, the U is inviting nominations for veterans who live in Utah.
Eleven veterans will be selected to receive a commemorative medallion at the ceremony in their honor. The ceremony is considered one of the largest of its kind on a college campus anywhere in the country. Over 130 veterans have been honored since the ceremony began in 1998.
The university has deep respect for all veterans and encourages submissions from every conflict from WWII to present. All nominees will be considered, regardless of the time period in which they served.
The nominee must be willing and able to talk about his or her wartime experience and have been in harm’s way (hazardous duty) or had combat experience. He or she also must reside currently in Utah.
Nominations and detailed supporting materials are due by June 11 to the office of University Marketing & Communications at 201 Presidents Circle, Room 308, Salt Lake City, Utah 84112. Forms are available at the office, online at www.veteransday.utah.edu, or by sending an e-mail request to kate@ucomm.utah.edu.
Information about past honorees and photos of past commemoration ceremonies also can be found at www.veteransday.utah.edu.
