U of U Invites Nominations for Annual Veterans Day Commemoration Program

May 6, 2008-The University of Utah will host its eleventh annual Veterans Day Commemoration Program on Tuesday, November 11, 2008 to honor Utah veterans who have served our country in the military. Again this year, the U is inviting nominations for honorees residing in Utah.

The University has deep respect for all veterans, but because of the advancing age of some who served in World War II and Korea, we are encouraging nominations from those two conflicts, however, all nominees will be considered.

The nominee, or a family member, must be willing to talk about the veteran’s wartime experience. The nominated veteran must have been in harm’s way (hazardous duty) or had combat experience, and currently reside in Utah. Eleven honorees will be selected to receive a commemorative medallion at a ceremony in their honor on November 11th at the University of Utah.

Nominations and supporting materials are due by June 13. Nomination forms are available online at http://www.veteransday.utah.edu/ or from the office of University Marketing & Communications at 201 Presidents Circle, Room 308, Salt Lake City, Utah 84112, or by calling 801-585-9244, or by sending an e-mail request to kate@ucomm.utah.edu.

Information about past honorees and photos of past commemoration ceremonies can be found at http://www.veteransday.utah.edu/.
