RIVALRY WEEK ROLLS ON WITH PEP RALLY AND FOOD DRIVE

Nov. 15, 2007 – Ute fans will turn up the enthusiasm next week in a huge pre-game pep rally as the football team prepares to play BYU. The celebration will be held on the Marriott Library Plaza, Tuesday, Nov. 20 beginning at 11:30 a.m. One of the highlights of the rally will be the “Rivalry Roll” where students, faculty, and staff compete for big prizes by rolling numbered tennis balls down the hill from the HPER gymnasium complex to the library.

Donations will be accepted for each roll to benefit the annual Utah/BYU Food Drive. The first place student winner will receive half off a semester’s tuition plus half price text books. The first place prize for non-students is an iPod. Anyone wishing to participate can register at the Campus Store, the Union, the Alumni House, the Park Building, and the Heritage Center.

Other activities at the pep rally include performances by the Ute Marching Band, cheerleaders, Crimson Line, as well as an autograph signing by coaches and team players from many sports. There will be free hot dogs and soda pop, and lots of other prize giveaways!

An important part of Rivalry Week is always the annual Utah vs. BYU Food Drive contest. Anyone can participate and help out those less fortunate by donating cans of food or cash at participating area locations. Below is a list of the different ways Utah fans can beat the Cougars in the fight against hunger:

  • Donate cans and other nonperishable food items to the Alumni House at 155 S. Central Campus Drive or to other Food Drive pick-up sites around campus.
  • Make a monetary donation online at http://www.alumni.utah.edu/ or in person at the Alumni House.
  • At Del Taco locations, donate $1 at the cashier and choose a Utah “U” for the restaurant to display.
  • Bring donations (cash or check) to the Utah vs. New Mexico game on Saturday, November 17.

For more information, call the Alumni Association at 801-581-6995 or go online to http://www.alumni.utah.edu/.
