“I’m Gonna Sing!”

Sept. 18, 2007 – This Saturday the University of Utah’s School of Music will offer a sample of the musical year as the University of Utah Singers, A Capella Choir and the Women’s Chorus unite in an evening of new melodies and song.

The School of Music Choral Showcase will take place on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 7:30 p.m. at Libby Gardner Hall. Tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for students (plus handling fee) and are available through Kingsbury Hall at http://www.kingsburyhall.org/.

The University of Utah Singers and A Capella Choir, under the direction of Dr. Brady Allred and the Women’s Chorus, under the direction of Dr. Jessica Napoles will perform a variety of song representative of the new academic year featuring the music of Carl Orff, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Anton Bruckner, René Clausen, Kirke Mechem, Moses Hogan and a world premiere by André Thomas.

“It’s a first listen to the new sound of all three groups brought by the make-up of this year’s choir members,” says Rachel Webster of the University of Utah Singers.

The University of Utah Singers recently returned from Europe where they performed in the 12th International Choir Festival en Provence, the Festival des Choeurs Lauréats; and the 19th Festival “Choralies de Vaison-la-Romaine,” in France. They were the 2006 winners of the European Grand Prix International Choir Competition in Tolosa, Spain and have won acclaim in Europe as well as at home.
