Homecoming 2006 Features New 18-hole Golf Tournament

September 18, 2006 — Homecoming Week at the University of Utah promises to be more exciting than ever this year, thanks to a beefed-up pep rally/concert and a new 18-hole golf tournament. This year’s Homecoming football game features the University of Utah versus Boise State at 1 p.m. in Rice-Eccles Stadium. Leading up to that regional gridiron war is more than a week of exciting events for students, alumni, and all Ute fans (see below for a full schedule or visit http://www.alumni.utah.edu/homecoming for more information).

Marshalls for Homecoming 2006 are longtime Ute supporters Phillip and Susan Clinger. Phil is the former alumni board president and current member of the University Hospital Board of Advisors.

This year”s Homecoming celebration gets started a bit early on Saturday, Sept. 23 with the annual Homecoming Student Dance. That is followed with the traditional House Decorating Contest, Songfest, Emeritus Reunion, Concert/Pep Rally, 5K Run, and Pre-Game Tailgate Party.

New to the festivities this year is a full 18-hole Homecoming Scholarship Scramble Golf Tournament to be held at Bonneville Golf Course just southeast of campus. It is open to the public and spots are still available. All proceeds will go to create student scholarships. Also, new to Homecoming is the addition of a Crimson Nights party at the Student Union the night before the game. Crimson Nights is very popular among students and open to anyone with a valid student I.D. card and one friend.

The annual concert/pep rally is moving to Stillwell Field near Officer’s Circle this year to make it more easily accessible to students living in residential housing. The evening will feature popular local rock bands Starmy and The Happies, free food, and appearances by head football coach Kyle Whittingham, players, the Ute Marching Band, cheerleaders, and Swoop.
