Cuts for the Cure

Cuts for the Cure will benefit cancer research at the Huntsman Cancer Foundation.

Sept. 13, 2012 — Need a haircut? Now’s your chance to get the cut and help cure cancer at the same time.

More than a dozen hair stylists will come together on the University of Utah’s Union Patio on Monday, Sept. 17, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to offer $5 haircuts to raise money for the Huntsman Cancer Foundation. Salon participants include Array Salon, Great Clips, and Hair Candy. Former “Bachelor” contestant Michelle Money—a hairstylist in Salt Lake City, whose father died of colon cancer—also will cut hair.

Now in its third year, Cuts for the Cure is one of several fundraisers sponsored throughout the academic year by ASUU’s Rock the U, whose mission is to raise awareness about cancer and to engage people as allies in the fight for a cure. They hope to raise $1,000 at this event, and $100,000 through other events during the academic year. All proceeds raised will be donated directly to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation for research.

“We want to raise $100,000 this year by providing many different opportunities for everyone to get involved,” says Sarah Vaughn, director of Rock the U. “ We honor those who have survived, remember those who have passed, and continuously support those fighting cancer today—and we encourage you to get involved with this worthy cause.”
