Campus Recreation Services’ Outdoor Recreation Program Receives National Award

November 15, 2006 — Campus Recreation Services’ Outdoor Recreation Program won the David J. Webb Program Excellence Award. The recognition was bestowed earlier this month at the International Conference on Outdoor Recreation and Education (ICORE) in Boise, Idaho.

The Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education (AORE) handed down the honor in recognition of innovative services, professionalism, and contributions to the field of Outdoor Recreation and Education. AORE annually honors an outstanding non-profit outdoor program which provides dynamic and innovative services to its participants, high standards of conduct, and contributions to the community at large by sharing information and assisting other programs. The University of Utah’s Outdoor Recreation Program (ORP) was selected for the award over 400 other eligible programs.

The ORP recently celebrated its 30th anniversary at the University of Utah. It is nationally recognized as one of the premier programs in the nation. The ORP serves over 11,000 students annually through both equipment rental and adventure trips. The program is involved in community events such as sponsoring the Banff Festival of Mountain Films and donates a portion of those proceeds to the Avalanche Forecast Center.
