Utahns Strongly Support State Initiatives Aimed at Improving Public Education, Split on Potential Funding Efforts

Results from a recent Dan Jones & Associates and David Eccles School of Business statewide poll indicate 89 percent of Utahns believe the state’s current and future economic performance is directly related to a strong public education system. The results show 98 percent of democrats believe the public education system is directly related to economic progress, compared to 85 percent of republicans and 89 percent of independent voters.

University of Utah to Graduate 7,947 Students on May 1

General commencement ceremonies at the University of Utah will be held on Thursday, May 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Scheduling the event in the evening continues a tradition begun in 2013 to make the ceremonies more readily accessible to students and their families. Commencement is free and open to the public; no tickets are required.

Student Entrepreneurs Face Off for $40,000

The Utah Entrepreneur Series 2013-2014 season will culminate with the awarding of a $40,000 grand prize offered by Zions Bank, Tuesday, April 15. This cash prize will be awarded to the winner of the Utah Entrepreneur Challenge, a statewide student business plan competition and the final event of the series. The Utah Entrepreneur Series is a division of the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute and David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah.

University of Utah Announces Gift for Transformative Entrepreneur Building

The Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute at the University of Utah announced today a $12 million gift from Pierre Lassonde, bringing his total contribution to $25 million. The new donation will be used for a transformative building for student entrepreneurs. Estimated to cost $45 million, the 148,000-square-feet facility will unite 412 residences with 20,000-square-foot “garage” space for students to gather, build prototypes and launch companies. Officials expect the building to catapult the university’s reputation for entrepreneurship education.
