Honors College Dean Martha Bradley Appointed Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs

The University of Utah’s Board of Trustees has approved the hiring of Martha Bradley, dean of the Honors College at the University of Utah (the U), to the position of associate vice president for Academic Affairs and dean of Undergraduate Studies, effective July 1, 2011. She will take over for John Francis, who is stepping down from this position after serving for 16 years.

7,416 Students Graduate from University of Utah May 6

Commencement ceremonies at the University of Utah will be held on Friday, May 6, at 9 a.m. in the Jon M. Huntsman Center. The class of 2011, comprised of 7,416 graduates, will receive degrees that morning. The procession of diverse students, who come from 70 countries, 49 U.S. states and 28 different counties in Utah, will begin at 8:20 a.m. Guests should plan to be in their seats prior to 8:20 a.m. Tickets are not required.

My graduation from the University of Utah is not only the result of my efforts, but also the result of my surrounding support systems that have contributed to this milestone in my life. Without the love, guidance, and support of my parents, I know I would not be here sharing my story with you today. In May 2001, my mother graduated with a Master’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Utah. My mother, at 46 years old, had shattered the glass ceiling of higher education for me and I knew that nothing could ever stop me from making my dreams of pursuing my education come true.
