Liang holds a Ph. D. from the University of Minnesota in curriculum and instruction, literacy education, an
M. A. from UC Berkeley in cognition and development and a B. A. from the University of Notre Dame in English and American Studies. Among other published works, since 2003 she has helped create the annual “Annotated Bibliography” for Research in the Teaching of English, selecting the best research on children’s literature and response published each year.
