Scammon's primary areas of research interest relate to consumers' ability to navigate in the marketplace. Current projects relate to problems of the uninsured, recovery from disasters, and consumer coping. Consumers' perceptions of and reactions to risk, especially risk protective behaviors, are also a focus of Scammon's work. In addition, she is an adjunct professor in family and preventive medicine, and serves as marketing consultant to the Federal Trade Commission.
