Sept. 6, 2012 – Matthew R. López will join the University of Utah as director of admissions, a new position resulting from the merger of student recruitment and admissions. His appointment is effective Sept. 17, 2012.

Reporting to Mary G. Parker, head of enrollment management, López will be responsible for developing the annual plan to attract, select, enroll and retain a diverse student body at the U.

López comes to Utah from the University of Colorado (CU) Boulder where he served in various roles in admissions for 11 years, most recently as associate director of recruitment, outreach and selection. López was responsible for all of undergraduate recruiting—including talented students, multicultural access, military veterans and outreach to over 200 Colorado high schools—for CU Boulder, which is similar in size and makeup to the U.

“The attractive academic profile of the University of Utah is becoming well-known across the state, and the country,” says Mary Parker, associate vice president of enrollment management. Parker joined the U a year ago to design and carry out its first strategic enrollment plan. “Matt López brings a wealth of experience, creative ideas and technical expertise to the U’s  goal: converting growing interest in the school into talented Utah students who then become our state’s influential leaders and professionals.”

López holds a master’s degree in public affairs from CU Denver and a bachelor’s degree in molecular, cellular and developmental biology from CU Boulder. He is an active member of several professional associations including both the Rocky Mountain and National Association for College Admissions Counseling.
