April 14, 2004 — Is there a special nurse who has touched your life? Nominate her or him for the 9th annual “Honors for Nursing” program sponsored by the University of Utah College of Nursing and the college’s Alumni Association.
Nominations are being accepted for outstanding nurses and nurse educators in Utah and for individuals or groups that have shown extraordinary support for the nursing profession. Honorees will be recognized at a ceremony and reception May 5, 6:30 p.m., at the Marriott University Park Hotel.
Honors for Nursing will be presented in conjunction with the celebration of the National Nurses Week from May 6-12, which also coincides with the birthday on May 12 of Florence Nightingale, the English nurse who founded modern nursing.
“It’s an ideal time to pay special recognition to nurses and other individuals who are strongly connected with the nursing profession,” said Kevin Martin, R.N., M.P.H., president of the U College of Nursing Alumni Association, which established the program.
In addition, Martin said the honors help raise funds for nursing scholarships and recognize organizations that have made significant contribution to the community. This year, the Dare to Care Award will be presented to the YWCA for its women’s health and safety programs.
Nomination forms are available at the College of Nursing or online, www.nurs.utah.edu. Include a $10 contribution for each nomination to help fund nursing scholarships. All nominators are invited to attend the May 5 ceremony.
Mail your nomination and check no later than April 21 to: University of Utah College of Nursing, Development Office, 10 South 2000 East, Salt Lake City UT 84112. For more information, call (801) 581-5109.
