University of Utah Singers Perform Annual Benefit Concert

May 8, 2007 — The University of Utah Singers’ annual benefit concert will take place on Saturday, May 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the Edgar Thompson Chamber Music Hall of David P. Gardner Hall. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased through the Kingsbury Hall ticket office.

The benefit will include a silent auction, dessert bar and performances from the U of U Singers. The musical line-up features a wide range of styles from classical to rock, musical theater to Japanese folk and more. The U of U Singers will also perform selections from their upcoming CD, If Music Be the Food of Love.

Under the direction of Brady Allred, the internationally acclaimed University of Utah Singers recently returned from a triumphant concert tour of France and Spain where they won the European Grand Prix International Choir Competition in Tolosa, Spain. They will return to Europe from July 12 to August 11 to perform at the 12th International Choir Festival en Provence, the Festival des Choeurs LaurŽats and the 19th annual Choralies de Vaison-la-Romaine, France. They will also present concerts in London, Oxford and Birmingham, England.

“The benefit concert will be enjoyable for the whole family,” says Carson Zajdel, concert co-chair. “Now that we are done with finals week, we can exhale and have some fun.” Zajdel also stresses the importance of raising money for the choir, noting, “It is great that we’ve had so much success in Europe over the last few summers. However, success comes at a price, and it is not always easy for college students to pay for a month of travel expenses.”
