India Night at U Showcases Traditional Music, Dance, Fashion and Food


Mar. 9, 2009 -The University of Utah’s annual celebration of Indian culture will take place on Saturday, Mar. 14 from 5-10 p.m. in the Olpin Union ballroom on the University of Utah campus. Seating is from 4 to 4:45 p.m. with snacks and beverages served during that time.

“India Night” showcases the rich cultural heritage of India through performances by members of the community. Highlights include Indian classical dance and music, Bollywood music and dance performances, regional folk dances, a fashion show portraying the current and old fashions in India and a dance floor at the end of the show. Authentic Indian food will also be served.

“The aim of the event is to bring together all the diverse aspects of Indian culture and present them to the people who are curious to know more about our country and its heritage, and of course to have some fun along the way,” says Aniket Surdi, president of the U’s Indian Student Association.

“India Night” is organized and managed by the Indian Students Association at the University of Utah. Tickets are available at http://web.utah.edu/isa/rangbarse2009.html or in persona at the Olpin Union Information Desk. Ticket cost is: $10 in advance or $12 day-of with valid student ID; $13 advance or $15 day-of for general public; $5 for children five to 15 years; children four and under are free.
