Calling All Innovators

May 24, 2010 — The University of Utah invites future innovators, scientists and engineers to register for the FIRST LEGO League (FLL), an event to be held January 29, 2011 at the U.

FLL students will build LEGO-based robots to complete tasks on a thematic playing surface. With this year’s theme, “Body Forward,” teams guided by adult coaches will explore the world of biomedical engineering and create innovative ways to repair injuries, overcome genetic predispositions and maximize the body’s potential.

The goal of FLL is to help kids discover the fun in solving real-world problems through teamwork, research and robots. It is open for teams of three to ten children, ages 9-14. FLL is created through a partnership between FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) and The LEGO Group.

The university will host a workshop on Aug. 5 to help new coaches become familiar with the program.
