Prescott Muir to Remain Chair of the School of Architecture

Interim Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Michael Hardman announced today that Prescott Muir, chair of the School of Architecture, has agreed to remain as chair, with the support of Brenda Case Scheer, dean of the College of Architecture + Planning. “I am pleased that we can come to an understanding,” Professor Muir said. “Now is the time to move forward in a constructive way that builds on a foundation of strong and nationally recognized academic programs within the School and College.”

Hope in Stopping Melanoma from Spreading

Researchers have identified a critical protein role in the metastasis of melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer. Inhibition of the protein known as adenosine diphosphate ribosylation factor 6 (ARF6) reduces the spread of melanoma to the lungs in mice, according to a study published in the March 5 issue of Science Signaling online, suggesting that targeting ARF6 may be an effective approach to preventing melanoma metastasis.

Academic Analytics Ranks the University of Utah and 22 of its Programs among the Best in the Nation

Academic Analytics recently ranked the University of Utah (the U) as 31st overall in faculty scholarly productivity among the nation’s public comprehensive universities and 28th in the number of federally funded grants received per faculty member. In addition to the U’s overall national ranking, 23 of its graduate disciplines were ranked among the top 25 percent in the nation.
