Study Shows Sexual Harassment Leads to Double-Victimization in the Workplace

Approximately 50 percent of women experience some form of sexual harassment in the workplace at some point during their career. As shocking as that number is, perhaps more so is the fact that many of those women find themselves doubly victimized through the reactions of judgmental coworkers who might think the victims didn’t do enough to stop the harassment, or that they somehow “asked for it,” depending on how the victim responded to the situation.

University of Utah Celebrates Utah Vets

One fall night in 1967, near Bong Son in the Republic of Vietnam, Richard S. Dixon – a 20 year old machine gunner and demolition expert – was traveling with 10 members of his squad in a two vehicle convoy when it was ambushed by at least two dozen Viet Cong soldiers. Machine gun fire killed the squad’s commanding officer. Although grievously wounded, Dixon continued to fire his pistol at virtually pointblank range, defending himself and his fellow soldiers.

Utah Engineering Prof Invents Smart Insole to Correct Walking Abnormalities

Move over Nike Plus. University of Utah (the U) professor Stacy Bamberg, of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, is developing a shoe insole that can gather comparable data to Nike’s popular line of high-tech sneakers and does more than track laps and airtime. The new insole, which Bamberg calls the Rapid Rehab system, will eventually help correct walking problems for people with artificial legs, hip replacements and broken legs.

Wild & Scenic Film Festival Comes to Utah

In this case, a selection of films entirely about environmental and natural resource issues will be screened as a touring edition of the Wild & Scenic Film Festival, which is held annually in California. But for the first time, Utah locals will only have to travel to the campus of the University of Utah to see and discuss the films.
