August 19, 2014 – The Student Media Council at the University of Utah is accepting applications for a manager of a newly created digital division to guide the development of student-run digital media.

The student manager of the division will oversee all current digital properties of student media—including dailyutahchronicle.com, kuteradio.org, mobile apps Utah Football and Utah Hoops, wasatchmag.com, the University Broadcast Network and student-run social media platforms. As the executive head of the new division, the manager will work closely with the editor of the Daily Utah Chronicle and the station manager of K-UTE Internet Radio to manage the content created for the digital platforms, in order to grow audiences and create interactive experiences.

“In a constantly changing media landscape, having a strong digital presence is absolutely necessary,” said Jake Sorensen, director of the Student Media Council. “The new manager will be instrumental in strengthening our digital platforms and developing new and innovative opportunities to create improved online interaction.”

K-UTE Station Manager Alex Wiles and Daily Utah Chronicle Editor Anna Drysdale welcomed the creation of the new division, seeing it as a way to make their media entities more marketable and better able to serve students and the university community.

“This new division will create online content that students can access anywhere, anytime,” Drysdale added. “This year and in the years to come, we’ll be able to dream bigger than ever before, develop a stronger online presence and help students connect and serve the U community 24/7.”

“We will have the chance to equip ourselves with marketable and useful tools to become successful in the digital era,” Wiles said. “This is truly a game changer for student media and the university as a whole.”

Students applying for the digital manager position need to have strong marketing experience, an entrepreneurial mindset and creative ideas for reaching audiences.
