Aug. 6, 2014 – As part of the 10th annual College Colors Day celebration, sponsored by the Collegiate Licensing Company, the University of Utah is participating in the Spirit Cup competition and asking fans for their support. Prizes include a $10,000 donation toward the general scholarship fund, a chance for a fan to win an all-expenses-paid trip to the College Football Playoff National Championship game as well as a U-branded freezer filled with a year supply of bacon.
The Spirit Cup competition runs through Aug. 28, 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time and is a points-based rivalry competition that uses social media to crown its champion. Utah fans can earn points by showcasing their school spirit on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtags #CollegeColors and #GoUtes. Bonus points can be earned by sharing those posts via the College Colors Day app. The school with the most points at the end of the competition will be crowned the champion and receive a $10,000 donation toward its general scholarship fund.
Fans can register for the College Football Playoff National Championship prize and the freezer full of bacon at trademarks.utah.edu/bacon.html. The winner of the championship game prize will receive round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations, a $500 American Express gift card and two tickets to the game, courtesy of the Collegiate Licensing Company and the College Football Playoff.
Winners will be announced on College Colors Day, Friday, Aug. 29. College Colors Day is an annual, national celebration dedicated to promoting the traditions and spirit that embodies the college experience. Fans across the country are encouraged to wear the apparel of their favorite college or university that day.
“We have so many dedicated fans that show their school spirit year-round, and this is a great opportunity for that enthusiasm to reward future students in the form of a scholarship,” said Richard Fairchild, licensing manager at the University of Utah.
In conjunction with the Spirit Cup competition and the College Football Playoff sweepstakes, U fans will also have the opportunity to support the College Football Playoff’s philanthropic initiative, Extra Yard for Teachers. The program, which supports teachers by providing classroom resources, professional development opportunities and a recognition program, will receive $1 every time someone clicks on the Extra Yard for Teachers ad within the College Colors Day app.
