The American College Dance Festival Association (ACDFA) has awarded Department of Modern Dance student EMILY TERNDRUP the ADCFA/Dance Magazine Outstanding Student Performer Award for her performance in Where Your Body Lies, a duet she co-choreographed with fellow student Patrick Barnes. A stunning work that stood out at the Northwest Regional Conference, Where Your Body Lies was chosen to go to the National Festival representing the Department of Modern Dance at the University of Utah. A panel of three dance professionals viewed 30 dances at the National College Dance Festival, held May 27-29, 2010 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Panelists selected the two award winners for their exemplary performances. This year’s panelists were Sali Ann Kriegsman, Karen Hildebrand and Christopher Morgan. One panelist commented on Miss Terndrup’s performance saying, “She had a wonderful facility, but her performance didn’t call attention to it; it was grounded with tremendous fluidity. ” Look for a feature on Emily and this award in the August 2010 issue of Dance Teacher Magazine! Emily says of the duet, “I’ll admit, I really enjoy how aggressive I get to be in this dance; pushing Patrick around was kind of fun. The hardest part is forcing yourself rehearse the dance as much as you should when you are exhausted–it is so tempting to ‘settle’ and call it a day.” (Dated: 6/23/2010)
